There has been a buzz around our house because something big is coming up next weekend. Next weekend Kaitlyn is having her third birthday party. Kids always get a little crazy when they know their birthday party is anywhere within six months of happening and our kids are no exception. Kaitlyn has been really scoping out the commercials and letting us know exactly what she wants. She points it out and says, "I want that for my birthday. Mommy, I want that." Then she makes you look at it and repeats herself until you acknowledge that you understand that she wants that and you will put it on her birthday list.
As I was making dinner the other night, Kaitlyn was watching TV (to scope out more toy commercials I assume) when she started telling Jason and I frantically that she wanted that. I, calling out from the kitchen and not being able to see the TV, try to pacify her and say, "Got it Kate. We'll put it on your birthday list" having no idea what it was. She was not satisfied with my answer and told me "Come see. You can't see it" and made me come look at the commercial so I knew exactly what it was she so desperately wanted.
As I come into the living room, I see a very colorful commercial with girls twirling and dancing around. Then the product pops up. Tampons. Tampons! After laughing for a moment, Jason reassured her, "Don't worry. You will get those someday."
Emma was right. These people did a great job at marketing their product. However, I think their target audience is a little young! I guess it gives them something to look forward to when they grow up...

Recovery is tough
Kinsey's surgery went well and she is tonsil free. She did very well through the surgery and felt very good yesterday. She is having lots of pain today and is refusing all pain meds. I keep telling her it will make her feel better but she won't take anything. She has a diet of popsicles, ice cream, pudding, yogurt, juice...pretty much all the good stuff. Although, she really doesn't want anything right now. She won't talk because it hurts too bad so she is pointing to everything. So it's a few more days of laying around the house and eating all the cold goodies she can until she feels better.
UPDATE: We finally got Kinsey to start drinking and taking little bits of popsicle and ice cream. She still looks horrible but you can tell she is feeling much better. I didn't realize that this surgery had such a rough recovery.

25 Random things about me
1. I'm obsessed with shampooing my carpets. I skipped carb day during the Indy 500 with Kellie to clean carpets.
2. I was still in college when I had both of my daughters. My last class was on January 24 and I had Kaitlyn (the youngest) on February 6.
3. My first year of teaching I had a boy call me a hippie because he thought it was a bad name (the same boy who rolled on the floor and licked the walls)
4. One summer in middle school I rode my bike 4 miles (one way) to attend summer gym with several of my best friends (who lived much closer than I did)
5. I treasure every Christmas when I get together with my friends from High School
6. I withdrew from Manchester in May of my freshman year. I re enrolled a month later.
7. When I was in 5th grade I wore a very ugly teddy bear sweatshirt and stirrup pants for St. Patrick's Day.
8. I cry every time I watch Stepmom.
9. I tried to work at a summer camp one year and left before orientation was over-I stayed about one day.
10. I distinctly remember telling Sarah Ryan "Come on, you're fine" two times in her life when she was not fine...Once after Latin and once at the DeMars lake when I was asleep in the yellow room.
11. Since my New Years resolution I have lost 10 lbs.
12. My mom still proudly displays my high school pottery in her office.
13. I pray for a two hour delay every night even though I know that Indianapolis Public Schools rarely gives them
14. I took gymnastics for four years and I wore tights under my leotard once. My teacher told me I wasn't supposed to do that. I asked him if I could go to the bathroom. I took them off hoping no one would notice. Everyone noticed. I was seven.
15. I loved every minute of being pregnant and can't wait until we decide to have another baby.
16. When I was 18 I got my tongue pierced. I let it close after my freshman year of college. Then I let my roommate talk me into getting it pierced again. I let it close five months later.
17. In High school I told my mom I was going to have a little party with our closest friends. 200 people showed up. Our neighbors called the cops because they thought there was a riot on our front lawn.
18. Some of my fondest memories are of my middle school years.
19. I've watched every episode of Grey's Anatomy twice.
20. My brother has never called me by my first name..only 'sissy'
21. One of my college art professors told me I should major in art. Sometimes I think I am the best shoe artist there is.
22. I worked at Finish Line for almost six years-on and off.
23. I've never broken a bone.
24. When I was in elementary school my brother and I used to ride our bikes to "Willies" to eat breakfast. We would pay in all quarters.
25. I rarely ever made it all the way through the Oregon Trail. I don't think I ever bought the right supplies.

Kids say the darndest things...
and usually at the most inappropriate time! Kinsey has always been known for her take charge attitude. Today was no different. We went to church and took the girls to Sunday school before service. They were welcomed in as usual and began playing. Jason and I went to service and everything was great! When we came back, the Sunday school class was sitting in a circle on the carpet. I didn't think anything of it..just that they were doing circle time or singing praises. I was very wrong. Their Sunday school teacher explained that Kinsey wanted to play a game and gathered everyone to the carpet in a circle. She then proceeded to ask Kinsey, "What game do you want to play?" Leave it to my child to respond, "Poker." POKER! What four year old says that...in Sunday school!
I have to admit I felt like that needed an explanation but we left in such a hurry, the teacher probably wanted to give us a help line number. See, Jason watches the World Series of Poker often on TV and he has an online SIMULATION game that he plays. Kinsey is very curious and asks questions about everything so he has explained it to her before as a card game that big people play. She always wants to be older than she is and I'm assuming that she brought that idea to the circle not having a clue what it really meant..other than that it is a card game. Kids pick up on everything...and remember it too!

8:30pm Get out the carpet cleaner and clean the carpet
8:40pm Put both girls in bed
9:40pm Kinsey comes out covered in "yuck" because she got sick all over her bed
9:45pm Give Kinsey another bath
9:55pm Get Kinsey new PJs and dry her hair
10:15pm Change Kinsey's bedding
10:16pm Realize she got sick all the way down the wall behind her bed
10:17pm Take her bed apart and move it
10:25pm Clean the wall with disinfectant
10:35pm Get out the carpet cleaner again
10:36pm Realize it went down into the base board
10:37pm Freak out...
10:38pm Finish cleaning the carpet and base board
10:40pm Put clean bedding on Kinsey's bed
10:45pm Put Kinsey back in bed
12:01am Kinsey runs in our room yelling that she heard Kaitlyn get sick
12:02am Find Kaitlyn crying in bed, covered in "yuck"
12:03am Give Kaitlyn a second bath

Here's a little piece of heaven...
Jason got me the Biggest Loser cookbook for Christmas and I've been dabbling in a few new recipes. I tried this one today and it was delicious! This was so easy to make and only took about 10 minutes! These are the kind of recipes I like :)
Gourmet Hula Pizza
Makes 1 serving
1 (about 8") low-fat, whole wheat flour tortilla
2 tablespoons traditional barbecue sauce (7 grams carbohydrates or less per 2 tablespoons)
3/4 ounce (about 3 tablespoons) goat cheese crumbles
3 tablespoons drained canned diced pineapple in juice, or drained pineapple rings in juice chopped into bite-sized pieces
1 1/2 teaspoons finely chopped cilantro, or more to taste
Preheat the oven to 400°F.
Place the tortilla on a medium nonstick baking sheet. Bake for 2 to 4
minutes per side, or until crisp. If air bubbles form while baking, poke
them with a fork, then use a spatula or oven mitt to carefully press the
air out.
Remove from the oven and top evenly with the sauce, then the cheese,
pineapple, and cilantro. Bake the pizza for 2 to 4 minutes longer, or
until the cheese is completely melted. Slice into 8 wedges and serve.
Per serving: 217 calories, 7 g protein, 35 g carbohydrates, 7 g fat
(3 g saturated), 10 mg cholesterol, 2 g fiber, 484 mg sodium

Hello Good Deals
2009 has started off by being one best years ever! On Saturday I went to lunch with my two favorite people, Jill and Emma.
After lunch we walked around the mall to try to find some bargains. Both of them found really good deals on new shoes. I held out on shoes...even though I really wanted the boots. We all got our jewelry cleaned and there were no epic upsets over who has more bling (unlike this this time). Emma and I then headed to Starbucks to meet Greg. There were two major things that happened at Starbucks worth noting. #1 Emma bought my peppermint white chocolate mocha #2 Greg told me about the best sale on EARTH.
Greg informed me that Steve & Berry's was having a going out of business sale. I had never shopped there before but I knew that Jason liked their stuff. I decided to go over with the Hetrick's to see what this sale was all about. Let me just say...Oh.My.Gosh.
This was not a sale, it was a mad house! People were doing flips over carts to get to clothes, throwing piles of t-shirts, cutting in line. Well, maybe not that mad..but it was pretty crazy. Emma and Greg split on me and left me to shop on my own. I walked around for a little while but the wait in the checkout line was probably about 45 min. I also decided to bail and go pick up Kinsey and Kaitlyn from my moms. I called Jason and told him that I didn't get anything. He told me to get back in there. I tried to explain that the line was soo long. Then came the best advice a husband could ever give, "That's what you do for good sales. You wait!" I couldn't let him down. I went back after I picked up the girls. This time there was no line and not nearly as many people.
When I checked out I had the following items:
10 College t-shirts for Jason
4 Shirts for me
1 Sweater for me
2 Pairs of pants for me
2 Shirts for Kaitlyn
2 Shirts for Kinsey
1 Pair of pants for Kinsey
Total: 22 items of clothing
I spent a grand total of $36.72. After looking at my receipt, I found that I saved a total of $181.22. This was the best shopping trip ever! I wanted to kiss both Emma and Greg after this trip. I called Emma later that night and told her all about it. This shopping experience was almost as good as this deal.
I hope 2009 has gotten off to a great start!
