Splash park

I love finding free things to do during the summer with the girls. We take them out of daycare during the summer because the time with them is priceless. We are always looking for new things to do to get out of the house. We found a new splash park this year that is really cool. It has a lot of things that spray and dump water. The best part is that it's FREE. The girls love it!!






I highly recommend it if you have children and are in the Fishers area. Or if you don't have children, I'm sure it would be fun any way.

Let's just clarify this

If you are in need of any kind of sporting equipment, sports clothes, or shoes...the correct web address is www.dickssportinggoods.com. As I was browsing the internet for gift ideas I thought it would be a good idea to check that website because they have lots of things that Jason likes. However, when I tried to go to Dick's Sporting Goods, I didn't know that the "sportinggoods" part of the web address was there so I just put the first part. As I'm sure you can imagine, my computer took me to a place that did not sell the kind of sporting equipment I was looking for. How embarrassing!

Is it over yet?

Have you ever taken a class that drags on forever? That is the class I'm in right now. I'm learning a lot of great stuff that I'll probably never use. Luckily my district is paying me to take this class and I'm getting graduate credit for it too. Part of our class is to tutor a student two hours a day for seven days. The content we are supposed to teach them is all about syllable patters, spelling, and other stuff. It is really beneficial for very low or struggling readers. Of course I get a student that has no reading issues at all and is three grade levels above her own grade. I can't apply any of the concepts that we are supposed to be doing with them because she is way too advanced for them. I do them anyway and she gets finished with the drills in like 30 minutes...leaving us with an hour and a half for me to try to fill. I have one game that we play, which we have played about 1000 times, and she is now an expert at sorting words into the six different syllable patters. She got to choose a book to read so she reads two chapters to me everyday. I did my best to try to sway her to the one I wanted to read but she chose some black dinosaur book. She loves it...I think it's a pretty crappy book. At least she likes it and is interested in it. Oh well, only three more days!!

Every summer we usually take the girls out of daycare. It is so nice to spend that time with them because we get so busy during the school year. After this class, it will finally be time to stay home with them. We will have about a month and a half together before the school year starts again. Kinsey will be starting kindergarten in the fall as well. We took her to get her immunizations last week so that she would be all ready to start school. She knew ahead of time that she had to get shots and I tried my best to prepare her. She was very cool about it when we talked about shots. She acted like it was no big deal. We got to the doctor's office and she got her well child check up. Everything went great. The doctor told her she was very healthy and almost ready to start kindergarten. Kinsey said, "But I need my shots first." My first thought was 'oh good. She's going to do great. We won't have any problems.' Boy was I wrong. The nurse came in with four needles...FOUR! As soon as she saw those...it was all down hill from there. Needless to say she did not do as well as I had hoped. But she got through it and showed off her band aids to the kids at daycare. I just can't believe that she is going to be in kindergarten!!!

School's out for summer

We have been out of school now for one week (it was a short week at that since teachers still had to report last Monday) but it was the longest week ever! However, thanks to Kellie it officially feels like summer! Yesterday, the girls and I packed up our cooler (more about our cooler later) and headed to Kellie's for the first swim of the season. Some of the highlights from our day:
1. Kaitlyn is so little she fit in Max's inflatable boat...and she loved it.
2. Kinsey jumping off of the diving board about a million times...and requesting that we give her a 10 for every jump.
3. Kaitlyn wanting to be like Kinsey and go off the diving board too...and get on the board only to get right back down.
4. Listening to the '80s and '90s mix
5. Heather's bathing suit top breaking...and then her replacing it with one of Kellie's mom's tops from the early '90s.
6. Amy loading up the girls' bag with goodies that she didn't want...seriously, lots of snacks. Thank you for that!

It was by far a great start to the summer and we can't wait for more days like that one! Unfortunately, on Monday we get to start a summer class that will take up the next two weeks. Luckily the district is paying us to take it :) I am looking forward to lots of good laughs over the next two weeks with the group that is taking this together!

The story about how we acquired our above mentioned cooler...
One night Jason was getting ready to go to a cookout for a bachelor party. Of course he needed to take a cooler. We just happened to have one that's been sitting in our pantry since LAST summer. He got it out of the pantry and before I even knew what he was doing he had "PFEIFFER" written on it in black, bold permanent marker. Frantically, I asked him what he was doing. He informed me that everyone writes their last name on their coolers (which I still don't believe). After debating with him that most people don't write their last names on their coolers, I told him that the cooler he just marked all over was not ours, but it was my moms. He then looked at me very calmly and said, "Well, I guess it's ours now."
