It's a sad, sad day

We'll see how this post turns out. I am forced to blog from my BlackBerry. Why? you may be asking yourself. Well, because I almost had a near death experience last night. So did Jason but in a much different way. There were some pretty violent storms across the circle city last night. Unfortunately, lightening struck something very close and I got shocked...it hurt very bad and my toes tingled like needles. There was a very loud popping noise and the next thing I knew...my TV, Wii, and computer were all not working. At that moment, Jason thought his life had ended. The TV was turning a multitude of colors, the Wii had no power at all, and my computer was giving me an error message. Several hours, many phone calls, and much stress later we have the TV and Wii fixed. Turns out the TV fixed itself and the Wii needed a new AC adapter. However, our computer blew the ethernet port and fried the network card. What does that mean? It means that my blogs are brought to you by my BlackBerry. So, to all of you lucky folks that still have your computers and internet working please be greatful. Be sure to turn off and unplug all electronics during a storm!

What were you doing five years ago?
If I'm not mistaken I believe five years ago would have been the summer that Jill, Larissa, and I set out on a journey to conquer the woods...Bradford Woods. Ahh, the woods! A Few Highlights...I did NOT bring nature's perfume, Larissa did NOT want to go into the lake, A naked girl asked Jill to do her hair, Everyone had one bookbag of stuff...we came with huge plastic tubs, My "mattress" was deflated, I offically hated "ditty's", I had to pretend to be an old woman for some skit, During the interview I told them I liked being outside of my comfort zone--clearly a lie, While trying to sneak out and leave- the director caught us...took us into a room where there was a purple bra on the table...why? Who knows? but I couldn't be serious after that, one of the director's names was HEAD--which was really weird...These are just a few of the momories that we had as camp counselors. Unfortunately, we only lasted a day and a half. That's right, we left before the campers even got there!

Dance Recital 2008

Dance Recital 2008

Kinsey and Kate participated in their first dance recital. It wasn't without its share of problems though. When we got to the recital all of the performers went upstairs and all of the parents went down to get seats for the show. We were very excited because Kaitlyn's dance was first. However, with about three minutes for the show to begin, we were told Kate had fallen asleep and they could not wake her up. I was a little anxious because she looked so cute in her costume and I was really looking forward to her big performance on stage. Luckily, she woke up right in time and did the best show to "Celebration" by Dora. Kinsey, who also looked absolutely adorable, was very excited for her dance. She was jumping around all morning ready to perform the "Happy Working Song" from Enchanted. When she fianally got on stage, she kept yawning and we didn't know what was wrong with her. At the end of the show, after her performance, she came into the audience and sat with Jason. When we got into the car after the show, she fell asleep immediately. When we brought her into the house we realized that she had a fever of 100.3. She was just fine all morning! Luckily, we made it through the whole recital and everyone got to perform. All of the kids looked great!

A Day in the Sun

Kinsey had the best time ever riding the 4 wheeler with Jen, jumping on the trampoline with grandma, playing in the clubhouse, and playing in the huge sandbox. Kaitlyn had fun playing in the huge sandbox, eating sour things and making funny faces. Ahh, summer is almost here!

Cultural Day

*Day of Many Cultures* Every year our school has a celebration for each class to demonstrate what they have learned about their culture of study. As our school is a spanish immersion, each grade level has a Spanish speaking country that they study. This is one of the most exciting days at our school. It is an all day celebration where classes make a traditional dish that represents their country, present a song or dance native of their country, and present any work they have done throughout the year. Every grade level rotates through the building to see every other grade level and sample their food samples. Each student presents their work. Then it all ends in the gym on stage where each grade level presents a song, skit, or dance in Spanish. Each student also gets a passport that they have stamped in every classroom to represent the country they are "visiting" and learning about. It is awesome to see the whole school interact with each other on this special day :)

The Potter Gazette

After an 8 week intense study of feature articles in writer's workshop, my class has finally finished and published their work! Here is the cover to the magazine we made as a class. Each student wrote a feature article, all of them are amazing, and published it into our magazine. Each student got a copy of every article that was written and everyone binded them into a magazine. It was such a long process and everyone did a great job designing and writing their articles. We were blessed that Katherine Bomer, established writer/author/teacher, came from Texas to work with us for three days during our writer's workshop time. She has taught in New York and has written several books about teaching writer's workshop. It was an amazing experience to have her in my classroom coaching and modeling for our young writers. In her short time with my students, she truly made an impact on them. Again...another great experience!

Indians Game @ Victory Field

What a beautiful day for a baseball game. This was one of the most amazing experiences. I was so excited that we were able to go to the Indians game because none of my students had ever been to a baseball game! I was shocked. When I found out about education day at Victory field, I said that my class had to have this experience. We called the office and they donated 100 tickets to our 6th grade class (that is a lot of tickets because I only have 19 students). Our generous principal also wanted them to have an amazing experience so he gave us $100 for students to buy lunch at the stadium. Students got to play games, relax, and enjoy downtown Indianapolis on a bright, sunny day. I am so glad they were able to have this experience!
